Business prospects for Fresno pet groomers brightened Tuesday as Mayor Lee Brand allowed them to reopen immediately during the city’s COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders.
“I’ve been considering this decision and it’s time to start the gradual process of economic recovery,” Brand said in a news release.
“This announcement will be joined by others in the future, as we move forward in a deliberate and reasonable way to return to normal routines without jeopardizing the health of our residents.” — Fresno Mayor Lee Brand
The mayor’s announcement followed a meeting of the mayor’s recovery committee on Monday afternoon.
“I’m thankful for the exceptional advice provided by the committee and input from the public during this challenging time,” Brand added.

[rlic_related_post_one]City officials reviewed Gov. Gavin Newsom’s shelter-in-place orders before declaring pet grooming an essential business. They determined that pet grooming was a form of animal care.
Pet groomers, like the employees of all essential businesses, must wear personal protective equipment. In addition, businesses are required to follow social distancing and disinfecting rules.
On April 10, the city strengthened and extended its shelter-in-place emergency ordinance through May 6 to combat the coronavirus.
At that time, Brand said: “The next two weeks are critical to slowing and eventually stopping the spread of COVID-19. I know we asking our residents and businesses to make tremendous sacrifices, but I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t willing to make the same sacrifices and if I didn’t think it was the best way to protect everyone in our community.”

Thank you Mayor Brand. You have two City Councilmen that seem to be pressuring for the City of Fresno to open. I have seen so many people out that do not distance the 6 foot rule or not wearing masks. The streets are very busy and homeless lay in sidewalks on several main streets of Fresno. I hope you take in consideration of the many not following the guidelines of how important this Covid is, and that you ease the opening and that Businesses follow and keep customers in line Clothing Stores, Restaurant’s especially, Bar’s and I as a voter would like to know how you plan to maintain these rules if your not having code enforcement in each Business to watch. If they don’t follow the guidelines then this closure of Businesses was for nothing. I’ve seen how our grocery stores have tried to have customers distance and they are rude to the employees as well as managers. Please hold your ground and don’t let these City Councilmen control the to fast of opening Fresno up. Best wishes better to alive and broke and be dead and rich. I don’t think some know how serious this is many loosing there limbs arms, legs all muscle having to learn to walk again. It’s not just a flu. We will have a second round of this virus. Tidy 15 new cases and now Mariposa Ca has there first case.

So pets can get a haircut. Felids can transmit SARS-CoV-2. How about humans getting a haircut?
