Humboldt-Toiyabe Forest Supervisor Bill Dunkelberger praised Matthew Zumstein’s diverse experience in announcing his appointment Tuesday to replace retiring district ranger Irene Davidson.

Served in the Peace Corps

Zumstein began his federal career after serving in the Peace Corps in Dominican Republic helping to promote and develop sustainable agricultural practices.
He worked as an environmental assessment specialist for the Forest Service in Washington, D.C., and was a recreation ranger in northeast Utah before he was named in 2016 as district ranger for Colorado’s Grand Mesa-Uncompahgre-Gunnison National Forest Norwood Ranger District.
Zumstein earned a master’s degree in forestry from Michigan Technological University after graduating from UC Davis with a bachelor’s in communications. He will take over the Carson District at the end of September.
