Brian Angus, the longtime CEO of the Fresno Economic Opportunity Commission, is preparing to step down.
He informed his leadership board of the move Wednesday (Feb. 27).

“The purpose is to ensure there is little of disruption as possible to Fresno EOC. I’m going to stay here and work as hard as I’ve ever worked.” — Retiring CEO Brian Angus

Fresno EOC Budget Is $110 Million

Fresno EOC is one of the largest social service organizations in the Valley, with an annual budget of nearly $110 million and more than 1,000 employees. The organization runs such programs as WIC, Head Start, and the Sanctuary Youth Shelter.
Angus said he is turning 70 in July and wants a smooth transition. He will stay on as CEO until his replacement is found.
“The purpose is to ensure there is little of disruption as possible to Fresno EOC. I’m going to stay here and work as hard as I’ve ever worked,” Angus said.
Angus joined Fresno EOC in August of 2010 after serving in similar capacities elsewhere around the nation.

News Surprised Board

Linda Hayes, Fresno EOC’s board president, said the news was a shock to her board.
“Brian has taken EOC to a level where there has been a tremendous group. This will be a great opportunity for the next person that comes in. They will have big shoes to fill,” she said
Hayes says if the board approves, the group will use consultants to make the new hire.
